La chanson raconte l'histoire d'un homme mystérieux, au passé lourd, qui arrive dans une ville montagnarde avec un cheval noir furieux et un poney. Cet étranger, aux yeux orageux et à l’expression triste, porte le poids de la perte de sa femme, qui avait chevauché ce poney. Sa douleur le rend impétueux et dangereux ; ceux qui cherchent à le provoquer ou à s’immiscer dans sa vie risquent de le regretter. Un jour, une femme blonde, attirée par son poney, tente de s'approcher de lui. Malheureusement, son intérêt mal placé lui est fatal, car l'étranger défend avec férocité ce qui lui est cher. À la suite d’un affrontement tragique, elle est tuée, et lui, bien qu’ayant tué, reste impuni, car on ne punit pas un homme qui se défend contre les voleurs. Cette histoire illustre à quel point un chagrin profond peut transformer une personne, la rendant capable d'actions extrêmes.
