The Dogs Of Alabama
Tom Paxton
[Verse 1] In the hist’ry of my country there is many a stiring deed. She has sheltered many a nation in her trembling hour of need. Now her freedom song is muffled by a new and snarling breed. It’s the baying of the dogs of Ala-bam-a. [Verse 2] In a happy pack they travel for they dare not stand alone Their tails are gaily wagging as they dream of flesh and bone And they plan their preservation in the comfort of their homes Do those merry merry dogs of Ala-bam-a. [Verse 3] Now he people down in Birmingham they don’t care much for strikes And the roaring bull who leads them hates all nigger-lovin’ kikes He don’t know much abour freedom but he knows just what he likes He likes his faithful dogs of Ala-bam-a. [Verse 4] If the status quo is troubled and the peace you must defend You can use high-pressure hoses and your troopers without end But if you’d really do the trick. just call in man’s best friend Call you merry merry dogs of Ala-bam-a.
