La chanson évoque les efforts démesurés d'un jeune garçon pour satisfaire les attentes de son entourage. Il liste ses bonnes actions de la journée, comme faire de l'exercice et prendre soin de ses affaires, tout en exprimant son dégoût pour certaines activités, comme aller au théâtre, qu'il trouve peu attrayantes. L'enfant se présente comme un modèle de vertu, promettant de s'occuper de son cousin sans jamais le taquiner, tout en cédant à la pression de montrer sa "bonne" conduite. Écrite dans le contexte des années 60, elle illustre les conflits entre les idéaux d'innocence enfantine et les attentes sociales qui pèsent sur les jeunes.
