La chanson évoque la présence d'un homme de Dieu qui accompagne de jeunes soldats avant leur départ au combat. Il essaie de les réconforter face à leur peur et à l'incertitude de la bataille, tout en sachant que la mort et la souffrance les attendent. Malgré ses prières et son soutien spirituel, il réalise que cela ne pourra pas arrêter la violence ni apaiser la haine qui découle de la guerre. À travers cette expérience, il souligne le poids des responsabilités sur les épaules de ces jeunes, tout en rappelant que seuls le temps et les conséquences de leurs actions détermineront si cela en valait la peine. Enfin, la chanson s'achève sur une réflexion poignante sur l'omsysteme de la vie humaine, avec une référence explicite à un commandement sacré.
