[Verse 1] Me n’ Oliver n’ Virgil was in the drugstore killin’ time when my eye fell on this magazine. I got To reading this article on sky-divin’ and parachutes n It said jumpin’ outta air-planes is the thing. [Verse 2] Now being raised down on a farm and always ready for adventure I knew that I could find a Way. I thought well Delmer Gill got a parachute and Uncle Harvey’s got a plane so I said call the boys together today’s the day [Verse 3] Well I found out too late what Uncle Harvey called an air-plane wuttin’ nothin but an engine and a wing. And I could feel my a risin’ as Delmer packed the parachute ’cause he kept telling me I’s doing the right thing [Bridge] [Verse 4] Ron Mcloughlin shook my hand and Jd strapped me in the harness and Tildon brought a jug n’ and passed it ’round. I took one look at that parachute and that whisky and that airplane and I turned that bottle up n’ I drank it down. [Verse 5] Well I was Drunker’n Cooter Jones when they poured me in the plane the engine coughed and Headed for the clouds. but I’s sober as a judge when Harvey opened up that door and I’ve never known my heart to beat so loud. [Bridge] I screamed Harvey! I Can’t Do it! as he kicked me out the door and I wrapped my hands around the landing gear. and I was holdin’ on real good ’til Harvey stepped upon my fingers and Virgil heard me scream from way down there. [Verse 6] well I Thanked God And Delmer Gill when my parachute finally opened and I said Hell Ain’t No Use In Being Afraid!" I came crashing through the hen house scatterin’ chickens n breakin’ eggs and I kissed the ground I fainted dead away. [Outro] Now friends I’ve fought some battles n I’ve been shot at once r’ twice and I dern near been run over by a train but I can’t remember being any more afraid than the day I jumped from Uncle Harvey’s plane
