La chanson évoque l'étrangeté d’un homme qui se rend compte qu'il est constamment suivi par la représentation de sa propre mort. À travers différentes situations banales, comme marcher dans la rue, acheter du pain, ou aller au cinéma, il fait face à des moments troublants où son épitaphe semble le hanter. Il ne peut s'empêcher de constater que sa propre tombstone, symbole de la mortalité, l'accompagne partout, l’obligeant à réfléchir à la vie et à la mort. Ce jeu entre banalité et inquiétude, entre un quotidien semble ennuyeux et une présence macabre, amène une introspection sur notre existence même.
