La chanson évoque le départ d'un ami qui a choisi de fuir la réalité, probablement à cause des difficultés et des moments sombres qu'il traverse. On ressent une certaine tristesse face à cette séparation, le narrateur s'interrogeant sur les raisons qui ont poussé son ami à prendre des risques, à se retrouver dans des situations compromettantes au Mexique. On comprend que malgré l'éloignement, il garde une affection pour lui et se souvient de son passé, notamment à travers l'évocation de sa fille, qui grandit, tout en restant attaché à l'image de l'enfant qu'il a connu. Dans ce récit, il est évident que les choix de l'ami ont des conséquences qui impactent non seulement lui-même, mais aussi ceux qui l'entourent, laissant derrière lui des questions sans réponse sur le sens de sa fuite.
