La chanson évoque la nostalgie et le départ d'un frère qui, après une dernière visite, choisit de quitter son entourage. Il laisse derrière lui une compagne peinée, qui espère le retrouver ailleurs, loin de leur quotidien. À travers des souvenirs partagés, il est question des moments de bonheur éphémères que l'on se remémore, contrastant avec l'absence qui s'installe. Les images d'une ville mécanique qui se réveille et des rires d'enfants rappellent la vie qui continue, malgré la douleur de ceux qui partent et ceux qui restent. Finalement, un retour inattendu fait resurfacer des espoirs fugaces, mais le temps semble avoir laissé des traces indélébiles.
