La chanson raconte l'histoire d'un renard qui sort lors d'une nuit fraîche, espérant que la lune pourra l'éclairer. Il lui faut parcourir de nombreux kilomètres pour atteindre la ville. En chemin, il s'arrête près d'un poulailler où il prévoit de chaparder quelques canards et oies. Après avoir réussi à attraper une oie, il se précipite pour rentrer chez lui, mais il attire l’attention de John, qui l'informe que l'oie a disparu. Le renard, alerté, file chez lui pour partager son butin avec sa famille. Sa partenaire prépare un bon repas avec l'oie, et les petits s'en régalent, savourant ce festin tant attendu. Cette histoire met en lumière les instincts de survie et la vie nocturne rusée du renard.
