La chanson raconte l'histoire d'un valeureux guerrier qui revient des champs de bataille, portant avec lui les trophées de ses combats. Son regard grave témoigne des épreuves qu'il a traversées. Ce jeune homme, nommé C. Chullain, fait preuve d'un courage exceptionnel, affrontant ses ennemis sans aucune crainte et les vainquant un à un, malgré les moqueries qui l'entourent. Au cœur des conflits entre les guerriers d'Ulster et le roi de Connacht, la chanson évoque une légende ancienne, marquée par des luttes acharnées, mais dont la raison initiale reste obscure, que ce soit par trahison ou tout simplement les querelles de buveurs. C'est un hymne à la bravoure et à l'esprit combatif d'un héros face aux défis sanglants de la guerre.
