La chanson raconte l'histoire d'un homme vivant dans un monde utopique, qui est en réalité un personnage comique et maladroit. Il est en couple avec une fille nommée Mary Lou, qui fait tout pour lui, mais lui ne sait pas vraiment apprécier ses efforts. Malgré son dévouement, il ne la traite pas correctement et la laisse souvent seule, ce qui engendre des frustrations dans leur relation. Au fil du récit, Mary Lou se révèle être manipulatrice et profiteuse, lui volant de l'argent et des objets précieux, avant de disparaître un temps pour revenir avec des excuses. L'histoire met en lumière les mésaventures de cet homme face à une femme qui semble charmeuse mais qui ne vise qu'à tirer profit de lui. Ce mélange d'humour et de critique sociale est typique de l'approche de l’artiste, qui parvient à faire rire tout en levant le voile sur des réalités parfois sombres.
