The DR guitarist either uses hybrid picking or just regular finger style to pick only the and strings for the rhythm and to sometimes includes "no third" rock sound. Sometimes I also play the Dno3 as a Dsus2 and lots of variations like that. Anyway a key element to this song is the no third sound which changes to full 3rd included sounds when you hit the chorus.
