La chanson raconte l'histoire d'Elzevir, qui prend soin de John, un garçon blessé, dans un monde dangereux où la contrebande fait rage. Après une trahison menée par Maskew, ce dernier est tué par ses propres hommes, tandis que John est également touché. Pour échapper à cette vie périlleuse, Elzevir doit fuir avec le jeune garçon vers une caverne secrète. Là-bas, John découvre des versets bibliques qui détiennent la clé d'un trésor caché, celui de Barbe Noire, enfoui dans un puits. L'aventure s'annonce pleine de promesses, avec la perspective de richesses à venir, malgré les dangers qui les entourent constamment.
