La chanson raconte l'histoire de Jimmy, un homme qui vivait dans un petit hôtel à Reno, connu pour sa consommation excessive de vin. Apparemment, il était en fuite pour oublier une femme qui hantait ses pensées, et malgré l'effervescence de la vie nocturne, il n'a jamais réussi à échapper à son souvenir. Jimmy a choisi de se noyer dans l'alcool, ce qui a finalement scellé son destin. Il est devenu une figure mémorable de la ville, laissant derrière lui une réputation qui évoque mélancolie et tristesse, sans même un vrai nom pour le rappeler. Dans ce contexte, Reno apparaît à la fois comme un lieu de rêve et de désillusion, où la recherche de l'évasion se heurte à la réalité des addictions et des blessures émotionnelles non guéries.
